Before Your First Visit to Broken Tree Pizza

Broken Tree Pizza has been in downtown Neenah's Marketplace building since it opened, family owned, in May 2015. If you haven't been yet, a few practical things make the first visit easier, and a few honest opinions from people who already go regularly are worth hearing before you do.

Finding the door

The address is 124 W Wisconsin Avenue, Suite 170. It's inside the Marketplace building in the center of downtown Neenah, so you're looking for a suite number inside a shared building rather than a freestanding restaurant front.

A bit of history

The Post-Crescent covered the opening on May 8, 2015, noting the wood-fired pizzeria had opened that Tuesday at 124 W. Wisconsin Ave., in the center of downtown Neenah's Marketplace building. It's been family owned since that day, and the pizza peel that hangs behind the counter is engraved with the same 2015 opening year.

Parking

Street parking directly out front can be tight, particularly around a Friday or Saturday dinner. There's more parking behind the restaurant, and it's usually the easier option if the front is full, especially if you're arriving right at the start of dinner service.

Hours, and when it's actually quiet

Monday through Thursday, it's open 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for lunch, closed in the afternoon, then back open 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. for dinner. Friday runs the same lunch window, then dinner 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday are different: both days run straight through from 11 a.m., 9 p.m. close on Saturday and 8 p.m. on Sunday, no afternoon gap. If you show up on a weekday between 2 and 4 expecting dinner, the kitchen isn't open yet for it. Early in the lunch window on a weekday is generally the quietest time to sit down.

There's a local beer list too

One Google reviewer, Nerd Grrl, mentioned enjoying lunch with a couple of beers and noted "a good selection of beers from local breweries." Another reviewer, Amy Klarkowski, paired her pizza with a Coot's Light from Fox River Brewing. If you're the one in the group who wants a local beer with dinner rather than a soda, that's worth planning around.

What people who've already been say

The pizza carries a 4.6 star rating on Google across more than 800 reviews, and some of the comments are specific in a way that's more useful than a star count on its own. One reviewer, Cheryl B, wrote: "This is the BEST pizza I have ever had....Love it! We drive one hour and 15 minutes to get it. Their broken sticks are delicious!" Another, Daniel W, kept it shorter after a weekday visit: "Lunch special is awesome, great pizza here." That's a long drive for one person and a quick verdict from another, both pointing the same direction.

How known it already is around town

Beyond the reviews, Broken Tree Pizza has more than 8,500 followers on its Facebook page and over 3,400 people who've checked in there in person. None of that tells you what to order, but it's a reasonable sign that a first visit isn't a gamble.

What to expect once you're inside

It's a casual, comfortable restaurant, not a formal one. The pizza is cooked in a wood fired oven you can see from the dining room, in full view rather than tucked in the back. Dine-in and takeout are both available. Stay for the evening, or ring ahead and pick it up on the way home. Children are explicitly welcome, dine-in service is offered, and mobile payment works if you'd rather not carry cash. There's also a second Broken Tree Pizza location in Appleton, but everything here describes the original restaurant on W. Wisconsin Avenue in Neenah.

After dinner

Frozen Tree, an ice cream shop, is down the hall in the same Marketplace building. It's a separate business from Broken Tree Pizza, but it's open seven days a week if you want something sweet on your way out.
